Cultivating the mind and body one may say is not desired as they also would say we are not the mind and we are not the body. And that is how practises mix and theories confuse people.
Everything has its correct timing and real context, so is with body and mind cultivation.
Danger of current day and age, the free flow of information, as much as it is an advantage it can be a disadvantage. Nothing is more easy than to apply theories or pieces of methods from a system just because it appeal to our current imagination or desire, or simply it fills a gap. And seems logical.
Body and mind cultivation as Qi gong starts with certain steps and has its purpose. Cultivating the body to prepare the vessel and cultivating Qi to further develop body – mind on this beginning stages. Risk is to mix in methods or practises from a different stage of practise, without seeing if it is compatible or not.
Leaving too early body level cultivation, will leave the body unprepared, without neccessary conditions and unable to bear the following transformations. More simply, to say, unable to handle qi practises.
But back to the opening sentences, if wether we are the mind and body or not, it depends on discernment of the type of practise we follow and the purpose of it. In nei gong it is strongly advised to follow a step by step body cultivation, and after that enter the cultivation of Qi, and follow the process of several transformations unfolding in both.
With discernment , and after this type of work cultivators of nei gong may arrive to the stage to start understanding someones reasoning of: “we are not the body and not the mind”. I dont mean by accepting it, or denying it, but perhaps gain enough practise to see it more clear and the confusion coming with mixing informations. Instead of that, more confidently can rely on repeated practise experiences.
Stick to a certain practise may need faith and endurance even on dark days, as well as joyous days. The mystery to me is the spontaneous unfolding of this path, which i suspect comes from diligent practise.
And paralell to it the inner child just put his hand on a camera and plays along…
( Sony , thank you. ) haha
