Nei Gong 內功
~ “In ancient times, Tao was at the center of life, it was the simplest, most natural and most understandable word. In the time of Lao-tzu, it already needed explanation. Later, it was explained more and more by more and more people, because it became increasingly incomprehensible. Finally, the people forgot it, and it remained a secret of the chosen ones. Chinese words are translated with great difficulty, and prehistoric words are hardly translated. Tao is a prehistoric Chinese word, therefore completely untranslatable. Not only because it is prehistoric and Chinese, but also because it belongs to a circle of existence from which we fell out more than two thousand and five hundred years ago.” – Béla Hamvas ( The Flowers of the Tao – Chunag-tzu, study) ~
Many traditions and peoples around the world have created their own worldview and understanding of man, for which they have also created systems of practice. One of these and the most widespread is the ancient Chinese system of internal arts. According to their interpretation, there had to be “something” that connects the physical reality of man with his spirit. Finding and cultivating this “something” ( Qi – 氣 ) is a central element of their worldview. At the same time, it is also a central element of our practice.
Nei gong is rather a process than a specific practise, as many originally suppose. Qi gong is the tool and nei gong is the process we go through via the transformation of body, Qi and mind. Eventually arriving to higher spiritual aims with a little more prepared “workshop”. The idea being, preparation is more important than chasing an idealised skill, or aim. To become ready to practise Qi gong truely is the strength of nei gong. How to do that is the core of the work in the beginning. Later more emphasis on how to let these ignited processes unfold.
Breathwork, Qi gong, Dao Yin, seated work, mental excercises all part of a whole system that seemed to survive centuries. Structured to lead the practitioner through a transformational process, where Qi is refined, built, regulated, channels are opened and mind is transformed. More ready for nei dan, and internal alchemy.
